Cairns, Queensland

Cairns, which  locals call a city in a garden(more like a jungle!) is enthusiastically geared towards tourism!!  It is the jumping off point to the Great Barrier Reef( but so are many other communities!!).  It has scores of hotels, hostels, caravan parks, and many, many, tour agencies!  The heat, and humidity reminds you that the jungle is just around the corner!  For many, Cairns will be end their Australian journey, and for others only the beginning.  Flights come and go frequently into Cairns International airport.  We met a young, barely something 20 year old who flew to Australia for a 2-week holiday!!  He will explore two communities...Cairns and Sydney.
