Cairns doesn't have a beach that you can swim at, but they do have a boardwalk in the park that runs the length of the shoreline. They also have a magnificent esplande lagoon that locals enjoy. If it is a beach you are looking for, there are many just on the outskirts of town, and a short 10-15 minute drive. We went to three beaches.
We stopped for a beer at Ellis Beach.
Swimming was out of the question. The stinger nets were pulled in, but when it is out, is provides a safe swimming area. I guess some small jellyfish that are able to get through the net have been seen so that is why the net is pulled in.
Palm Cove.
