Monkey Forest, Ubud, Bali

We spent an interesting day traveling in and around the Ubud area of Bali.  One of those areas was Monkey Forest, and me not being a fan of monkeys, was at first skeptical, but it was a worth while and entertaining journey!

This Hindu graveyard was located in Monkey Forest.  It is a temporary burial site that will be eventually dug up, and a mass cremation ceremony will be done. This type of burial ritual is practiced to give the families of the deceased time to accumulate funds for the cremation.  Many of the headstones are embossed with the swastika symbol.  The swastika is a very old symbol with use widespread throughout the world.  It traditionally had been a sign of good fortune and well being.  Then Hitler took and abused the swastika and turned it into a symbol of fear, suppression, and extermination.
