Interislander Ferry
We were to catch the ferry this morning to go to the south island, but the voyage was cancelled due to life boat problems. There was a huge lineup of people and everyone scrambled to find alternate travel. Flights were quickly booked up, which we considered, but then you don't get to see the beautiful scenery through the channel. People were booking for the evening ferry, which we didn't want because then it is too dark to see anything. We were lucky and were able to get on the ferry in the afternoon. But, it did cause us some difficulty because the car rental, and our airbnb had to be contacted for alternate plans. All turned out well...the ferry voyage was scenic, the boat was huge...it even loaded about 30 rail cars, dozens of private vehicles, and loads of people. We disembarked at the small community of Picton, grabbed our luggage, found our rental car, and headed toward Nelson about 90 minutes away. For some odd reason, all the pictures I took while on the ferry and the drive from Picton to Nelson went missing!!
