Going West

We said our goodbyes to Rae and Paul and headed southwest to the West Coast of the south island in New Zealand. The road was was twisty and curvy, and you need to have your full attention on the road at all times.  There is no fear of an animal leaping out from the ditch, but one missed curve could send you over a cliff to be never found again! The drive is beautiful but exhausting! We stopped occasionally along the way to rest, or take pictures.

Old Ghost Road is is one of the most ambitious new cycle trails, the 80km trail follows a historic byway started in the 1700's but was never completed when the gold rush petered out. At the southern end of the track there is a picnic area and campsites.

A small, super busy restaurant that serves delicious meals. It also has backpacker accommodations.

We drive by a lot of sheep and dairy cattle, but these are the first wild goats we have have seen.
