Chinese Settlement of Arrowtown

The Arrowtown Chinese Settlement is a historic village located in Arrowtown. It was set up by the Chinese people during the gold rush of the 1860's. The settlement has been restored, and interpretive signs explain the lives of the Chinese diggers during and after the gold rush. Subjected to significant racism, the Chinese often had little choice but to rework old tailings rather than seek new claims. The last resident died in 1932.
