Interesting Fun Facts About Singapore

Singapore is not just a city, but an accumulation of at least 64 offshore islands, that surround the main island. Sentosa is a popular resort island with a that is home to Universal Studios and a beautiful beach which we have visited during a previous stay in Singapore. Nature lovers will enjoy other islands like Pulau, Ubin, St. John's Island, and Sisiters' Isalnds.

This fascinating city is home to the very first night zoo called "Night Safari". You can explore this attraction by ambling the walking trails of the zoo, or hitching a ride on the guided tram.

It's a city of man-made waterfalls, and one is actually located at the airport.

The locals speak Singlish which is a collection of colloquial catchphrases and lingo from Singapore's multiculturalism. Some of the locals refer to strangers as "Aunties" and "Uncles", which is an endearing way to address older ladies and gentlemen. 

Singapore pioneered the first F1 night race called Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix which is held annually since 2008 and hosts a gamut of concerts, racing, and entertainment for all ages.

Singapore, which is a city of skyscrapers, is one of the world's greenest cities. This city is over half filled with lush greenery of all varieties. 

Singapore is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Singapore Botanic Gardens has a history of over 150 years since it was founded in 1859. That's more than a century older than the nation itself. The most popular attraction, is the National Orchid Garden.

There are many neighbourhoods to explore, including Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Gelam is a vibrant area which is has excellent eateries, trendy shops, with a rich history, the art deco-style buildings of Tiong Bahru and the colourful shops and tradtional food stalls of JooChiat/Katong.

And, there is always something to celebrate in Singapore that include festivals, major sports, lifestyle and art events. Fireworks can be seen at the harbor front every evening with crowds of people watching.
