Khoa San Road, Bangkok

After a well deserved sleep for Geno and Glenda after the long trip over the pond, we decided to show them Khoa San Road.  This short street has developed into a world famous backpacker ghetto.  It offers cheap accommodations ranging from mattress in a box style hotels to reasonably priced 3-star hotels. It serves as a base of travel for major tourist destinations in Thailand and the neighbouring countries of Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and  Vietnam.  Khoa San shops sell handcrafts, paintings, clothes, local fruit, pirated CD's, used books, plus many useful backpacker items.  During the evening, the streets turn into bars and music is played, food hawkers sell barbequed insects, exotic snacks for tourists(I tried to take a picture of scorpions on a stick, but the lady selling this snack said No, No).  Several pubs and bars serve as meeting places for travelers to exchange travel stories and personal histories.  It's a fun place to spend some time and have a couple of beer!

I had to laugh at this sign!!  The Thais are modest people and are probably tired of seeing fat tourists in string bikinis, and speedos!
