The Wonderful World of Old Penang
Old Penang or Old Georgetown used interchangeably is an interesting place, with a mixture of three distinct and ancient cultures, indigenous and colonial architecture, fantastic food, and a buzz of liveliness! You see time worn shops, a mishmash of Chinese temples in Little India, mosques in Chinatown, and while Western style skyscrapers tower high above the British Raj-era architecture. This eclectic jumble makes this city an interesting place to explore. Its chaotic streets, and narrow lanes, with shrines decorated with strings of paper lanterns, and fragrant shops selling Indian spices makes you longing to extend your visit! On a return trip from the beach one day, we knew we were getting closer to Old Town just by the delicious aroma of spices and cooking that filled in the air. I've discovered I appreciate this island more the second time round!
