We bought tickets and went to the Costa Rica Blues Festival at Playa Potrero which is about a 45 minute north of Tamarindo. It was a small venue held at the sailing center right next to the beach, with many bands from Costa Rica, USA, and Canada. We especially wanted to see Canadian, Donnie Walsh, of the Downchild Blues band who entertained us with a band called The Leatherbacks. The Leatherbacks were formed in 1997 by American guitarist/vocalist Nick D'Amico in the Costa Rican beach town of Tamarindo. Since their inception they have steadily gained a reputation as one of the best rock n' roll bands in the country. Canadian guiarist/vocalist Brian Burback has brought depth to the band along with a Venezuelan percussionist, and a couple of Costa Ricans who play bass and drums. The festival was a huge success, to a sold out crowd.
I took advantage of this pool to cool off.
This is Playa Potrero which is the beach where the festival was held.
Donnie Walsh with back up band, The Leatherbacks. The sax player is a guy named Joe, which frequently plays in the bars in Tamarindo.
I caught a few pictures of the sunset at the festival, along with a few other people.
