The port city of Fremantle has always been a favourite of ours. It's part of the Perth metropolitan area, and is known for it's maritime history, Victorian architecture, and remnants from Australia's days as a British penal colony.
Freo, as it's affectionately known, has a wonderful diverse market on the weekends, a lovely waterfront and park, and many shops, eateries, and pubs. We always day trip it to Freo, but this time round we spent the night.
