Next Stop...Oamaru!

Oamaru is a laid back sleepy town of about 14,000 people and quite enjoyable. The locals saunter and linger along with the tourists.

Down by the harbour is an area called Victorian Precinct that has some of New Zealand's best preserved Victorian commercial buildings. The buildings are now filled with shops that have many curiosities that will keep you busy inspecting antiquarian bookstores, antique clothing, kooky gift shops, artist studios, and craft bookbinders. Once you tire of shopping, there is no lack of small cafes, and eateries to regain your energy.
