Driving Through the Province of Guanacaste
The roads are narrow, hilly, curvey, occasionally marked with pot holes, and without a shoulder. There are crazy drivers at every turn. Most Costa Ricans who are driving are first generation drivers. There are no driving lessons to be had, no mentoring from parents(I guess there will be now, but not for the good), and no police ticketing bad drivers. Canadian children learn to drive from a very young age by sitting in the car and watching their parents at the wheel of a vehicle. They learn about stop signs, stop lights, signaling, passing, parking, etc. Costa Ricans and all other third world and developing countries drive by the seat of their pants. We have seen many near misses, insane maneuvers, and I am shocked that there aren't more traffic deaths.
Our stops were Playa Hermosa, Playa Panama, Papagayo, and Liberia.
