Burning Hills

Playa Del Coco is in the province of Guanacaste.  It lies in the northwestern part of Costa Rica and borders the Pacific Ocean and Nicaragua.  It is best known for its beaches, and biodiverse parkland.  Its Santa Rosa National Park is home to rare dry tropical forest, surfing sites, and home to 250 bird species.  Presently, it is the dry season in Guanacaste.  Many deciduous trees are bare, and  with temperatures of 35-36 degrees Celsius, and no rain in site for months, conditions for forest fires are perfect.  Everyday we see smoke rising from the small mountains from where fires have started, created from human carelessness.  We sat on the beach one afternoon and watched the sides of the small mountains burn up.
