Anzac Day, April 25th

Anzac Day is one of Australia's most important national commemorative occasions.  It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.  The battle took place on the banks of Gallipoli, Turkey in 1915.  It was a sunrise service at Kings Park.  Because of the thousands of people that attended many large screens were placed throughout park.  The service was beautiful, thoughful, and haunting.  It ended with a lone jet soaring low in the sky above the park, followed later with four bi-planes.

This is not the memorial where all the wreaths were placed.  I wanted to go back and get a picture but we were cold and tired and didn't feel like fighting the crowd.
