Our next stop was at the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou a traditional pre-Saharan habitat, estimated to be about 1000 years old. A ksar is a group of earthen buildings surrounded by high walls for protection from the elements, and invaders, and then reinforced by corner towers. Ait Ben Haddou was located on the caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech, and the buildings were intricately constructed of bricks molded by pounding earth into masonry units. A very interesting site!
Accommodations can be found on these ancient grounds!
A little old Granny invited us into her home.
I tried to get granny's picture, but she was shy and evaded the snap.
