Kata Beach, Phuket, Thailand

This is my favourite beach in the world ...so far. The sand is soft and powdery white. The Andaman Ocean gentle and warm, and very clear. It is very easy to spend a good portion of the day at the beach!

Kata Beach is housed in a large bay with a long, wide stretch of sand. This location we have decided to sit at is at the far north end of the beach.

This barbeque restaurant is at the far south end of Kata beach, opposite of where we were beaching it with the loungers and umbrellas. We often stop here for a beer and spring rolls.

Good Bye Malaysia, Hello Thailand

The last leg of our trip has arrived....Thailand. within this country we have two locations, and three different accommodations to move into. Kata, Phuket is our first location, and our first accommodation is on a busy street that is slow and pokey in the morning, but lively and busy with people, traffic, and the smells of delicious Thai food.  Everything we need is on this street except for the beach, that is a three minute scooter ride.

A Hole in the Wall

Two years ago, on our first visit to George Town, we discovered this tiny hole in the wall bar. We had driven by it during the day but took no notice because all the tables and chairs were put away. So on this trip we stopped for beer in the afternoon, and fully planned to return in the evening but our plans were fouled due of rain.

This is the shop that sells alcohol.

This is the area where the tables and chairs are set up at night. As always in Asia, the streets look different at night. Shops, eateries, and bars open up, and now you have a whole different landscape!

Chew Jetty Penang

The largest and most intact of the clan jetties, Chew Jetty consists of 75 elevated houses, several Chinese temples, a community hall, and lots of tourist facilities, all linked by elevated wooden walkways. There are numerous shops to browse through, small eateries, and places to buy souvenirs.

Lim Jetty, Penang

Lim Jetty is one of the six clan jetties, or Floating Village in George Town. This is a complete village on stilts above the water where Chinese clans live. In the 19th century many Chinese immigrants came to Malaysia. To enlarge their chances, clans were established, so together they could survive in their new environment. What an interesting place!

This is what the jetty looked like in 1910.

Mexican Anyone?

We stopped in for lunch to a small Mexican restaurant that is next door to our accommodations. The food was good, and it a nice reminder of home!💓

Straits Quay

With our scooter we are able to snoop out areas otherwise unavailable to us, Straits Quay is one of these places we wouldn't have made the effort to come. It is a newly developed highend area that is quite beautiful. It's full of shops, a few restaurants, holds a marina, and there are condos for lease and sale. This well out of the Old Penang area. I'd rather stay in Old City with the busyness of a beehive.

Highend Grocery Store

Most locals eat out, street hawkers are super cheap, and this grocery store is very empty, but I sure love their spice section!

Old Penang

More sights of Old Penang.

We ate lunch at this small hole in the wall. This man is making naan bread.

                                         Small market

Veggie and fruit stands can be frequently seen lining the streets.

                                                       Queen Victoria Memorial Clock

Our street where we are staying at Old Penang Guesthouse. The building is historical, the people who work there are great, but I wouldn't stay there again, only because the wifi sucks! Our building is on the right hand side and is the first white protruding building.

Here comes the eggman! Do you like them scrambled???
