This is the 19th anniversary of Sailfest in Zihua, where sail boaters who are called cruisers, have anchored in the bay, and collaborated together to raise money to build a bilingual classroom for indigenous children. Presently the school's enrollment has nearly 400 students.
Zihua Sailfest is a week long festival, that hosts sailing, music, arts, parties, volunteerism, and friendship, and a huge amount of generosity. Last year, the festival brought in a total of $2, 226,733 pesos, which is about $140,000 Canadian dollars.
Last year, we participated in the sailboat rally, which sails out of the bay, around a large rock and back into the bay. This year, we took in the chili cook-off, the benefit concert, and the sail parade. You could attend an event every day of the week, and every dollar you pull out of your pocket goes directly to the school. It certainly was a week full of fun, generosity, hard work, for a common goal.
