New Island...Santorini, Greece

Our first look at Santorini took our breath away! It's cliffs are multicoloured, and layered, due to a devastating volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, changing its rugged landscape, and creating a caldera. The main island of Thira has a snow-drift of white Cycladic houses lining the cliffs tops. The small town of Fira, where we are staying on the main island, is a vibrant, bustling place, with its caldera edge lined with hotels and restaurants allowing for beautiful views while having a glass of wine, a delicious meal, or taking an enjoyable a walk down narrow cobble stoned pathways. It is truly amazing!

Santorini donkeys are available for anyone wanting that kind of experience. The mules/donkeys are harnessed together and led by a donkey master. There is also a cable car that will take you up and down the cliffs.

We stopped for a glass of wine and took in the ambience of the caldera. Volcanoes have always amazed me.

An old fort at the bottom of the cliffs.

This is my best picture of the caldera with my camera's limitations, and my photographic inabilities. The volcano is in the middle of the island. It is still active, and we could see a bit of smoke coming from it.

We are loving Greece!
