One Day Pickleball Tournament

Our pickleball guru, Emanuel and his wife, Ana, hosted a tournament this past Sunday. It was a great event, and there was a display of some unbelievable talent. Hoss played and I watched.

Madera Beach

We finally made it to the beach. It has been extremely hot and humid for us northeners. We have been wilting under this vale of heat, so we have stuck close to the pool at our apartment.

                                              The ocean is amazingly warm!

The One and Only...Juan Carlos!

Juan Carlos has been a  Zihua friend of ours for many years. This past summer he came to Saskatchewan to visit many of his friends. He stayed with us for a couple of days. He designs and makes beautiful jewelery then sells them at his table in Centro in Zihua.

He kicked off the tourist season with inviting some of his friends to his home and serving everyone his delicious homemade ceviche. We had a wonderful afternoon with great friendship and food! Thank you kindly Juan Carlos for your hospitality and generousity.

Look what Juan Carlos found in his backyard!

The Catrina

La Catrina is the grand lady of the afterlife. She is a female skeleton, or skull, that is dressed is elaborate attire. It's quite amazing to see all the different Catrinas!

New Adventure....Return to Zihua

We arrived in Zihuatanejo, Mexico on October 28. The small city was buzzing with the upcoming celebration of Dia De Muertos or Day of the Dead which is held on November 1st and 2nd. The children celebrated Halloween, on October 31...which lingered into November 1st with avid trick or treating and in costume. In the past few years these two celebrations have been merging together.

Day of the Dead is a family tradition to remember and honor those they have lost. Altars are set up in homes and adorned with pictures and favourite items and food of their beloved deceased. Graveyards are visited and tombstones are cleaned while a joyous celebration is held with food and family.

The outdoor market is filled with flowers for sale...especially marigolds, which are often called "flowers of the dead". These bright yellow and orange flowers are said to attract souls to the altar. They are cheery and celebrate life, instead of the sadness of death.

These two children have been selling trinkets on the street for years. The little girl is a spitfire and an accomplished salesman.
