Road Trip to Puerto Vincente

For a bit of a change-up we took a day trip to the small, sleepy town of Puerto Vincent which lies 86 km south of Zihua. The road was windy, and with steady traffic, and with a few interesting stops it took us a couple of hours to get there.  Our visit was on a week day so the town was very quiet, as opposed to the weekends which are busy. This quaint town is very small with only around 550 inhabitants. Restaurants dot the small bay which has water breaks to calm the surf. We had a lunch, walked around, and then headed back to Zihua. We had a very nice day.

Our first stop of the day was a great little campground. It made us feel like we should buy a motor home and travel around.

A if camping isn't your thing, you can always rent a room.

Our next stop was an ocean front restaurant which has been open since the mid 80's, with  the delicious aroma of home cooked food on an open fire, and killer views!

Our destination....Puerto Vincente.... soft sand, and crystal clear calm water.

The Parthenon of El Negro

The Parthenon of El Negro in Zihuatanejo was built by a corrupt Chief of Police. His Greek themed party house is in a state deterioration, but it's beauty can still be seen through its neglect, pilfering, and graffiti.

Arturo "El Negro" Durazo Morena became Chief of Police in Mexico City from 1976 to 1982. During he brief tenureship he was able to build an enormous racketeering empire that included kickbacks from the drug smuggling industry. As a result he built a couple of lavish mansions that he used as his personal retreats. He developed a reputation for egomaniacal behavior and crookedness that followed him to his grave. He was eventually arrested and charged with smuggling, possession of illegal weapons, corruption, and extortion.

We parked at the bottom of the hill and walked the dirt road to the Parthenon.
