Ruins

Xihuacan is a Mesoamerican archeological site near the small town of La Soledad de Maciel that is about a 40 minute drive from Zihuatanejo. Formal digs have only recently begun unearthing discoveries that include the King of Chole stele and ball court rings. The site has been occupied for over 3,000 years by three cultures including the Teotihuacan and Olmec.

If you decide to visit Xihuacan you will discover there are two sites, a museum, which we didn't visit, and a small demonstration from a man in a warrior outfit.

Over the many years of our travels, we have visited many ruins. Prior to visiting this site, I was expecting a mound of rubble, so I was impressed with the small excavation of Xihuacan. It was quite a delightful trip!
