Grab My Sunnies and Off to Oz

Our destination this year is Australia and surrounding areas.  We have purchased a one way ticket, visas, accommodations for six nights, and are anticipating 26 hours of travel time from Vancouver to Sidney, with a short 2 hour layover in China.  A long haul...yes!  Good thing I enjoy flying, but sleeping is always a problem!  I'm a poor sleeper at the best of times, and only a catnapper on planes, buses, cars, boats.  I walk aimlessly around the plane while everyone has settled in for a few hours sleep. I read, watch movie after movie, watch other people sleep, and wonder how they do it!!  Friends and acquaintances say sleeping drugs could be the answer. But, I am reluctant!!  I'd rather feel tired and grumpy, than groggy and foggy!  Candy Crush won't be able to fill the void, as it needs an internet connection.  Sudoku, word games, solitaire, journal writing, bathroom visits are some of my companions.  Our journey will chase the sun.  It is the oddest thing to be flying and following the sun around its orbit.  Flight attendants, with watchful eyes, are quick to your side if you lift the window blind to sneak a peak of this wonder.  They politely tell you to close the blind.  They want everyones' melatonin to kick in so sleep is available.  But not to me.  The sandman passes me by!  My body aches longingly for the prone position.  I am bewildered by how others so easily sleep in a sitting position.  During this long trip, I will catch a few moments of sleep here and there, but not much more.  Feeling exhausted, cold, unable to sit much longer, we will finally arrive at our destination, make our way through immigration, security, and pick up our backpacks.  We will leave the terminal, and look for the person who we have arranged accommodations with.  He has kindly offered to meet us at the airport and take us to his home where we can finally get a good night, or in our case because we arrive at 9:30 AM, a good day sleep!

Hockey Game

We had planned to return home on an earlier date, but when Hoss discovered that the Philedelphia Flyers were playing the Florida Panthers on April 8, the deal was sealed, so we bought a return ticket for April 9.  It was great to be in a rink once again...I guess we are true Canadians!!  The game was fun to watch, there was lots of scoring, but the rink barely half full!  Food and drink were extremely expensive...$6 for bottled water.  We bought and shared a turkey sandwich, 1 bottled water, one Pepsi, for a grand total of $28, parking was $20, but we did get a deal on our seats...we paid $50 for $185 seats.

We arrived in Regina late Wednesday night, and spent the night with Hoss's dad.  The next day we took the bus home, and discovered that Addison had a huge supper prepared and waiting for us!!  What a great kid!!

Our trip is over, but not our memories, or experiences!  We will settle into our old life, back to our comfortable ways, and re-immerse ourselves into family and friends.  The end of a trip is always bitter sweet.  I'm happy to be home, but sad the trip has come to an end!!  My gypsy gene cannot be calmed!!

The rink is called the BB&t Center, and it's in Fort Lauderdale.

                                         A HUGE jumbotron!
Yeah... we are first on the scoreboard!!
                                         Nice!!

                                           Oh...shutout gone!
                                             Oh, oh!!
Awwww...better!  Also, final score.  Philly has secured
                                          a playoff spot!
                                         A happy group!!

                                        Well done!

Our Last Beach Day:(

Our trip is coming to an end!  Our flight home is for Wednesday, so we took advantage of the gorgeous Florida weather, and hit the beach one last time.  We drove to Del Rey, which is a beautiful area, very beachy, and laid back!

                                         Yoga on the beach.

Birthday Adventures!

We celebrated Hoss's birthday with a Sunday brunch at the yacht club where Gerard and Tracey rent boats from.  We met some friends there and shared a great breakfast meal!  After totally stuffing ourselves we drove to the Masarati Polo Club to watch a US Open Polo championship match.  As never being to a polo match, and knowing absolutely nothing about the game, I had many questions!  Many of my questions had to do with financing such an expensive sport!  They call it a king's game!  The horses are gorgeous, the field gigantic, and the people range from average to fancy schmancy!  Valet parking was a continuous line of highend cars that were well over 100 grand!  Drinks are expensive...I stuck to water, and that cost me 4 bucks!  The game was fun to watch, the horses give 'er snoose, and the riders are fit, and talented!  We had a great afternoon!

                                           Breakfast!
                                           A Masarati.

Divots, as in golf, need to be repaired.  The game is divided
into periods called chukkas, and after each period, divots are
repaired by grounds keepers.  At halftime, the crowd is invited onto
the field to repair divots, drink champagne, and receive
small tokens of appreciation from game sponsors.
Not liking champagne, I stayed in the stands and took
                                           pictures!

Road Trip...Again!

We rented a car, yes, another car, and headed over to Orlando to visit Universal Studios!!  We took the scenic route which takes you into the intercoastal islands.  It's a beautiful drive, with beautiful beaches, neat little restaurants, very beachy lifestyle!  I love it!!

Universal Studios was great fun.  There are two parks, so we bought a 2-day ticket so we could see it all, and do it all, and we did.  Quite exhausting!!

Along the way and back, we stopped at a couple of beaches.

The Despicable Me ride was great!  Even Hoss enjoyed it!!
He is now a minion fan!!
I never watch The Simpsons, but this ride was a lot of fun!!
I now know who Crusty is!

                                           Fabulous!!  We went twice!

                                          We got totally soaked!!!
                                           Harry Potter!

                                          Popeye's....again totally soaked!!
                                            Hagrad's abode!

The Rocket.  Very scary...we went twice!!
A great ride.  Lots of fun!!
                                          Back to the future...the Delorian!!
                                            Awesome!!

We had a great lunch at Hard Rock!
