Pickleball

 We were introduced to pickleball last year while we were in Zihuatanejo, and we have picked it up again on our return trip. There are more people playing this year with covid on the downswing(fingers crossed!)and we are now using two different courts, one in Centro and the other in the area of La Noria where we played last year. We are having fun, I can't really say my skills have improved!

Playa Majahua

 This beautiful beach is located in a small bay that is host to a wild, wild surf that is glorious to watch. Unfortunately, the lane from the road to the beach is littered with garbage! So sad to see our world filling up with garbage!

 

Playa Blanca

 We spent an afternoon at Playa Blanca which lies about a 15 minute car ride south of Zihua.

We sat in the shade at the beach restaurant of El Dorado's, cooled off in their pool, walked the beach to the turtle hatchery, ordered fish tacos, and drank a beer or two, in the company of good friends. What a glorious afternoon!

           We watched a nimble man clamber up this coconut tree to reap its fruit.

 

He's in the tree, but no one can see him. Occasionally, we get a glimpse of his hand as he chops away at the fronds.

                                     And there he is!

Supper With Friends

 Always a fun time with this group of people. Claude and Lynne invited a few of their friends over for supper at their beautiful condo complex, La Ceiba. They treated us to a pool party and then a delicious spaghetti meal. Merriment was had by all.

Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Dia De Los Muertos is an important holiday, which mainly originated in Mexico, and is celebrated on November 1 and 2. This celebration involves family and friends gathering to pay their respects and remember loved ones who have died. Although Dia De Los Muertos seems like a sombre day focusing on death, it's actually a joyous occasion. On this day, Mexicans visit cemeteries, decorate the graves, and spend time there honoring their passed family and friends. Decorated altars are built in their homes, elaborate costumes are worn, with faces painted to resemble skeletons, and parties are hosted. Although we missed this joyous occasion, there are still decorations remaining reflecting this celebration around the small fishing village of Zihuatanejo.

Zihua 2021-22

 We arrived November 13 on an uneventful flight that landed us in Zihua later Saturday afternoon.  Good friend, Claude, was waiting patiently outside as we made our way through customs, baggage pickup, and immigration. We easily found our accommodations, as it lies in the same neighbourhood we stayed last year.

We rented a 2-bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment on the corner of Calle Rubi and Opal in the gem area just off Kioto Circle. We are thankful for the roominess our apartment gives us. Our landlord, Angelica and Gerardo, who own the building and live below us, are kind, friendly and very accommodating.
