Sale...Cold Weather...Dog Races

We overnighted it at the showgrounds(fairgrounds) of Sale.  It was absolutely freezing here.  The wind was ice cold, and felt like it was blowing straight out of the Antarctica!!  If I had knackers there would have been major shrinkage!! One camper had to cut down his awning because the wind ripped it half off!  We headed over to the dog races, but sat indoors.  We had an enjoyable time!!  I asked one fellow what happens to the dogs when their racing days are over, and he said one lady from the community has made it her mission to find adoptions for each dog.  Good news!!

The dogs are showed to the audience before racing for betting purposes.

They groom the track after each race.

Genoa

We spent the night at the small town of Genoa which has a free camp.  Australia is full of free camping sites, so we take full advantage of most free sites or inexpensive campgrounds.  If laundry needs to be done then we look for a powered paid campground.  As we turned into the free site we noticed many large branches strewn all over the ground, broken off from the previous night's storm.  The rain flooded a few campsites but that was all soaked in by the time we got there.  We found a site, unpacked our gear, and set up.  Our camp neighbour said duckbill platypuses can be found in the river, but unfortunately we didn't see any on our walk.  Big billowing storm clouds quickly developed and headed our way.  We made for home, and just got back as the rain hit.  Loud cracks of thunder, and flashing lightning put on a show, as buckets of rain streamed down for well over an hour.  This area is considered rainforest so this much rain should not surprise us!

                                             Platypuses live in this river.

Young people having fun in the river.
                                          Local watering hole.
This picture doesn't do the storm justice.
A beautiful rainbow to say all is well!

Eden

Our destination was Genoa, but we took a peek around a small town on the ocean called Eden.

Moruya Market

We love markets, and visited this one shortly before we left.  It was very busy!!

Same Name

We have seen the street names, Catlin Street, Addison Street, Melville Street, and now Addie Bistro(short for Adelaide...a city in Australia).

Heading South

Our plan now is to keep heading south.  We stopped at Moruya, at a very nice campground, and tried out our awning for the first time!

                                           We love our awning!!

Beautiful pool so I finally got some swimming in!

                                          Beautiful thunderstorm!

The Aussies like to sleep in these small tents called swags.
                                              A bed roll is inside.

A camping neighbour that befriended Hoss, found some oysters,
and showed us how to shuck them.  I guess they were very good,
I passed up the opportunity to try them!  And, yes, I am a chicken!!
