Playa Larga

A 15 minute drive south from Zihua gets you to a massive beach called Playa Larga. We spent New Year's Eve afternoon at Aquarena Restaurant.

Havier's

Havier, who is a Zihua local, owns a liquor store and also manages rental property. It is a good meeting spot to have a drink, meet people, and have a visit.

Havier is in the white tee-shirt. His buddy, Juan, is sitting next to him and owns a restaurant on Ixtapa Island which we occasionally visit. These 2 are great sources of information. If you have a problem, or need some help, you know who to go to.

               Hoss is talking to Vern, an American, who we met last year. The two of them get along great.

Supper Invitation

Claude and Lynne, very good friends of ours, have been coming to Zihua for close to two decades. They have rented a lovely apartment and enjoy entertaining friends. Today, Claude is barbequeing steaks. Thank-you C&L for the great supper and friendship!

Playa La Ropa

Playa La Ropa is a well sought out beach for many sun-seekers, including us. We spent the day in the sand in front of Elvira's Restaurant visiting friends, cooling off in the ocean, and catching a few rays. I have to say that Zihua is probably my favourite destination in Mexico. There is such a sense of community.

Our first day at the beach. We sat in the shade trying to slowly ease into our tan while we visited with friends.

Zihuatanejo is very busy this time of year. Mexicans along with snowbirds flock to beach destinations for the Christmas celebration. It's lovely to see so many happy people enjoying their holiday with their family.

Our Terrace

We have a lovely terrace at our little hotel. It's a great place to meet people, take in some Zihua views, enjoy the hummingbirds, and drink a morning coffee. Maybe I'll be brave enough to practice my yoga out here.

                             I met a family of 4 from Sweden on the terrace the other day.

 I made a friend, and named him KitKat. Every morning he meows at our door, we let him in, feed him, and he shows his gratitude by staying for a visit.

On the terrace, there are a lot of hummingbirds fighting for nectar, all in various sizes and colours.

2020 Zihuatanejo, Mexico

We arrived in Zihua December 28, 2019. Friends of ours picked us up from the airport and drove us to our accommodations, which is a small hotel that offers 6 studio-type-apartments, in a lovely, quiet, residential neighbourhood. Maria, the property manager, is very kind and accommodating. Our apartment, which is down the hallway, around the corner, at the end of another hallway, seems likes it's located in a basement suite because of its dinginess. It's very basic, with a limited kitchen, which is okay by us. After we settled in, it didn't seem so bad. I'm never too fussy about our accommodations. It's a place to keep our stuff, sleep, have a shower, make a few meals, and as long as it's clean and safe, I'm good.
